Army of Thieves

WHY

To help us wait before the release in 2022 of the animated series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and the sequel of Army of the Dead, Planet of the Dead, Zack Snyder offers us with Army of Thieves to discover the origins of one of the most endearing characters, Dieter. It’s a pleasure to see again the German actor Matthias Schweighöfer who takes the opportunity to direct this film and he will bring a real European touch to the show and to this story. All the action happens in different countries in Europe and the zombie invasion is seen only from afar through the media and television. Reminiscent of the early days of the Covid crisis that didn’t interest many people at the very beginning. The story proposes to follow Dieter who is going to join a team of bank robbers and get him out of a more than monotonous life. The main interest for him is to be able to see in real the famous four legendary safes of Hans Wagner. Before this movie, we already knew one of them since it is the famous safe that sends the heroes of Army of the Dead to Las Vegas. The story around these safes is really interesting and gives a real feeling of a quest to follow for the characters. Each of the heists is approached in a different way and plays a lot with the codes of heist movies. The team of robbers is really cool to follow with as you can expect each one of them having their own speciality, the alchemy works pretty well between them and that will bring some surprises! A very nice thing is that as the film is set in Europe, the characters often speak several languages like German and French. The casting reflects these choices as with the French actor Jonathan Cohen (seen in Family Business). The evolution of Dieter is really well done and we understand much better his enthusiasm to go and open a safe in the middle of zombies now. Don’t miss this really entertaining movie!

WHAT

In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
