The Afterparty

WHY

Apple TV+ offers us with The Afterparty, a new exciting and very funny “Whodunit” to discover! Christopher Miller, who, with his colleague Phil Lord, has made films such as The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, is the showrunner but also the director of all the episodes. You can immediately feel their style in the way they tell the story with jokes and tons of references to the pop culture. It starts in a classic way with the murder of one of the characters and then we discover progressively the other protagonists of the story among whom the murderer is hiding. Each episode will focus on the version of one of the characters bringing a different vision of the evening and the murder. The excellent idea of the series is to show these versions as different kinds of films, from auteur films to action films to romantic comedies and even musicals. For each of these “movies”, the visual and musical style is of course adapted and really well done. This is really interesting and reveals the personality of each of the characters and is also very funny. What also makes the story exciting is that the investigators are just as crazy as the different suspects. We can’t wait to discover the many versions in each new episode and of course, we are dying to know who the murderer is!

WHAT

“The Afterparty” centers on a murder mystery at a high school reunion. Each of the eight episodes features a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual style and film genre to match the teller’s personality.
