Finch

WHY

After Greyhound, the WWII naval battle movie, Tom Hanks is back on Apple TV+ with a new adventure. This time, it’s a post-apocalyptic movie in which we will follow Finch (Tom Hanks) and his dog, Goodyear. After a really intense opening sequence, a new companion will be added to this duo with Jeff, a robot built by Finch, not to keep him company but to be able to take care and protect his dog. A long period of learning will then begin and this will be the heart of the film and all its strength. The relationship between the three is very touching and progresses in small steps. The film deals with loneliness but also with the life we have lived and what we regret not to have done and the choices in life. The story is well written and we really get interested in Finch’s life and Jeff’s life in the making. The latter is full of life thanks to a stunning mix of animatronics and computer graphics. The film is not lacking in action with the eventful meeting with other survivors or the flight to safety from an impressive storm. Embark on a touching road trip through the desolate American West!

WHAT

In “Finch,” a man, a robot and a dog form an unlikely family in a powerful and moving adventure of one man’s quest to ensure that his beloved canine companion will be cared for after he’s gone. Tom Hanks stars as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. But Finch, who has been living in an underground bunker for a decade, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear. He creates a robot, played by Caleb Landry Jones, to watch over Goodyear when he no longer can. As the trio embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West, Finch strives to show his creation, who names himself Jeff, the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive. Their road trip is paved with both challenges and humor, as it’s as difficult for Finch to goad Jeff and Goodyear to get along as it is for him to manage the dangers of the new world.

The Harder They Fall

WHY

Let’s dive in the middle of the Wild West with this Netflix movie that proposes us to follow a story of revenge. The film is distinguished by its high-level cast with actors with a lot of charisma as it is always the case with Idris Elba and Delroy Lindo but also by its inventive filmmaking and its bold musical choices that are surprising the first time but finally fit perfectly with the spirit of the movie. We reassure you right away, we do not fall into caricature either! The first film of the English director Jeymes Samuel (he also signs the script and the production) was a western, They Die by Dawn. And we feel his love for this genre with many references and tributes. The opening credits plunge us directly into this atmosphere. The story and the characters are really in the spirit of westerns and the various duels and action scenes are very well mastered and interesting to watch. So get on your horse and enjoy this really fun entertainment!

WHAT

In this Western, outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy, Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), is being released from prison, so he reunites his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge.
