March was full of good shows to watch! We made this selection of what you should not miss! Our favorite choice goes to the epic movie, Zack Snyder’s Justice League!

Boss Level

WHY

If you like crazy action, don’t miss this film! A true love letter to the action cinema of the 80s with its black and disillusioned humour, it offers us a perfect casting with Frank Grillo as the jaded hero and Mel Gibson as the villain. We couldn’t have dreamt of anything better! The hero is stuck in a time loop in which he always ends up dying and never in the same way. We discover with great pleasure his various attempts and his weariness in front of all these repetitions. This is further supported by an excellent voice-over! The film becomes even more tasty with the arrival of a team of killers, each one crazier than the other, reminding us of the one that director Joe Carnahan had proposed in his film Smokin’ Aces. The action sequences are really crazy especially in the last part of the film. One of the good ideas shows the hero using the repetitions to raise his XP level to face much stronger enemies. This evolution is excellent and very funny to watch and makes this B-series a perfect Saturday night movie to take your mind off things!

WHAT

From acclaimed filmmaker JOE CARNAHAN – writer-director of NARC, SMOKIN’ ACES and THE GREY – comes BOSS LEVEL, an action-drama like no other. Roy Pulver (FRANK GRILLO) has a helluva problem: Every morning, he’s slaughtered by assassins in different ways. Sometimes he’s shot, then blown up, or beheaded, or stabbed — then that days starts anew, on and on, for reasons he can’t figure out. A former Delta Force member, Roy needs to figure out why he’s stuck in this repeating loop in time and space, how he can save his ex-wife (NAOMI WATTS) and 11-year-old son, and what an evil military scientist named Ventor (MEL GIBSON) wants with something called “The Osiris Spindle.” By setting things right, Roy can become the best version of himself – if he can save himself from being killed again.

Cherry

WHY

After offering us epic confrontations between superheroes (Avengers: Endgame), the Russo brothers take us into a gripping descent into hell with Tom Holland in their new film, Cherry. It is a very intimate and personal film that they offer us! Their directing is very inventive as the fact of dehumanizing bank employees by putting them in the shade or a superb long continuous shot in a car. The story is carried by an impressive Tom Holland with whom we will follow his character through several periods of his life. And as much to say it will not be of any rest especially the military period and its aberrant and stultifying process of training of the soldiers. The confrontation with the reality of war is terrible and the character will not come out unscathed. This is shown very well with his addiction to drugs to forget the events of the war. The real descent into hell will start from this moment and his difficulties to find money to pay his doses. And his friends are not really the best help he can hope to have. The chemistry between Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo is magnificent and gives us some very touching moments especially at the beginning of their relationship. Don’t miss this excellent dramatic film!

WHAT

“Cherry” follows the wild journey of a disenfranchised young man from Ohio who meets the love of his life, only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions and challenging life circumstances. Inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name, “Cherry” features Tom Holland in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo). When Cherry returns home a war hero, he battles the demons of undiagnosed PTSD and spirals into drug addiction, surrounding himself with a menagerie of depraved misfits. Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way.

Godzilla vs. Kong

WHY

After the impressive confrontations of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, this new movie of the MonsterVerse will raise the bar of the entertainment even higher! With a title like Godzilla vs Kong, we know what to expect and that the confrontations will be simply epic! We can only advise you to follow what Warner Bros recommended: be sure to watch the film on the biggest screen possible! It’s a real pleasure to see our two titans again but much less so about the human cast. Most of them are pretty annoying with a special mention for Millie Bobby Brown and Julian Dennison but let’s be honest, we’re not really here to see humans. Although the bond between a little girl and Kong is pretty cool and interesting. The film plays the fantasy card to the top as we are shown a very nice tour of the interior of the Earth in which the filmmakers show us a lost world to the power of 1000. Let’s come back to our two titans who will fight each other many times and in different environments. Each of these fights is very well choreographed and directed. The number of iconic shots is huge and will stay in your mind! And we really feel their immense size and how humans and their constructions (especially the buildings) represent nothing for these two monsters. The final battle will raise the destruction rate to a rarely seen level and will delight fans with the surprise arrival of a third particularly formidable opponent. So get your popcorn ready and get on board for an epic show!

WHAT

The epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another – the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong – with humanity caught in the balance.

Raya and the Last Dragon

WHY

The new animated film from the Disney studios, Raya and the Last Dragon, takes us to the fantastic world of Kumandra, which was once united and is now divided into several very different regions and tribes! We follow the journey of Raya who is in search of the last dragon Sisu to reunite Kumandra and save her father. A true tribute to Asian culture, the film makes us discover sublime landscapes and offers us improbable encounters like this team of pickpockets composed of monkeys and led by a baby! In addition to Sisu, Raya is going to put together a rather special team to help her in her quest and made of people from the different tribes. The story talks about with trust, the importance of being all together and avoids the trap of good versus evil. There isn’t truly real bad guy but more two princess with a different approach but with the same goal. The film is really enjoyable to follow and includes many memorable sequences such as the first flight scene of Sisu and the discovery of the different regions. And for those who would be resistant to the traditional Disney film songs, rest assured, there are none in this film!

WHAT

“Raya and the Last Dragon” takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Set in the world of prostitution in Spain, the series turns quickly into a road movie following the run of three heroines. Their pimp sends his two henchmen after them. Colorful, in every sense of the word, the series is really cool to watch, its characters are quite crazy! It’s interesting to discover their past through many flashbacks and how they arrived into this environment. Each one has a way to handle doing this work. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

WHY

Marvel fans are really lucky because, just after the excellent WandaVision series has finished airing, here comes a new series with this time The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. And let’s face it, this one kicks off in spectacular way with a long action sequence featuring Falcon and an old enemy, Batroc the Leaper, seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Falcon will use this sequence to show us some really cool new gadgets from his armour. This new series is more classic in its treatment than WandaVision, at least for this first episode which lays the foundations of this season. The main story are not yet defined as well as the main bad guy. We follow separately Falcon and Winter Soldier, each one facing the consequences of the events of the last Avengers movies. Falcon has to get his life back together after disappearing for 5 years because of the Blip and Bucky Barnes is in the middle of a guilt trip because of his murders when he was under Hydra’s orders as the Winter Soldier. These more intimate sequences are very interesting. We’re looking forward to seeing these two characters work together!

WHAT

Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of “Avengers: Endgame,” team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience.

The Irregulars

WHY

This new Netflix series takes us to Victorian London to follow a group of teenagers who live on the streets of the city. They will soon be recruited by Dr. Watson to help him solve supernatural investigations. This group of kids is quickly endearing especially the character of Jessie who has a very special gift. Each of the teenagers has their own personality and “specialty”. The “leader” of the group lacks a bit of charisma and can be quite annoying at times but the relationships between them work relatively well. The investigations are interesting to follow and foreshadow a much greater danger to come! One of the major interests of this series is to follow in parallel the group of teenagers and Dr Watson accompanied by the famous Sherlock Holmes. The alchemy of this duo is as you can imagine quite complicated but very complementary. The series offers a darker and different vision of this famous duo as well as for the other characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Even if at the beginning the teenagers are only underlings for Watson, this will change after a few episodes to become much more complex and interesting. Get ready for a tour of London’s underworld!

WHAT

Set in Victorian London, the series follows a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes. As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, it’ll be up to the Irregulars to come together to save not only London but the entire world.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League

WHY

The wait is finally over for all the fans of Zack Snyder movies and epic blockbuster! Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now available! As a reminder, Justice League was released in 2017 but had known a very complicated end of production when Zack Snyder had to withdraw from the film for dramatic family reasons. This new version of almost 4 hours is not a simple director’s cut but it’s a new movie! There are no more traces anymore of what Joss Whedon had done, so forget the silly humour, the family in the final battle and many other bad ideas, the film finds back a coherence and a structure that works very well. Thanks to its length, the director has the time to set up the story and to develop each of the characters with interesting backgrounds and to bring new ones, some of which are already known by the fans of the DC universe and the other movies but also characters never seen before! It’s really impressive to see the number of new sequences that have been added, many scenes now work much better and others become even more epic than in the 2017 version. Zack Snyder offering us even more iconic and stunning shots and this is really obvious in the stunning sequence where Superman come back to life and the final battle. These two sequences are the perfect example to see the difference between the two versions and their improvements. The characters have a true purpose to be present and not just appearing to fill a script hole like Lois Lane. The villain also takes on a whole new dimension and we better understand his motivations and is visually much more convincing. The film also offers us a new villain who was barely mentioned in the other version of the film. The relationships between the different heroes are also better worked out and the characters like Cyborg and Flash have finally an interesting treatment especially about their past! Superman will also have this new treatment, first with his relationship with Lois Lane (her character is not there anymore to just calm down Superman!) and then with a new suit (yes, the black costume!). The feeling of power that he gives off in the fights is really amazing! Zack Snyder had already greatly improved the quality of Batman v Superman with his director’s cut but in this case, it’s even more impressive with this movie thanks to this new treatment of the characters, reworked visual effects and a new soundtrack! Don’t miss this epic show!

WHAT

Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of Justice League (2017). Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his new-found ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
