For this weekend, we wanted to focus on two different but really cool movies, one about a time travel story and the second about a coming to age story.

Check out our mini-reviews and have a great weekend!

You can still have a longer list of the releases under the “This Friday” section on the homepage.

The Adam Project

WHY

After the very cool Free Guy, Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds are back for a new adventure with The Adam Project. The story follows a young boy who meets a 30 year old version of himself and must save the world. Based on the idea of time travel, the film offers us a touching story about the choices we make or will make in life and its consequences as well as the lack of a father figure. All this is treated with a lot of humor, Reynolds will remain quite sober in this register, far from the excesses of Deadpool. The cast is really impressive and seems to have had a lot of fun. There is an 80’s movie feel and we think that if the movie had been made at the time, Richard Donner or Steven Spielberg would have been the director. The story is very pleasant to follow with its share of surprises and the action sequences are dynamic thanks to the futuristic weapons and ships. The movie is really the perfect entertainment for the weekend!

WHAT

A time-traveling pilot teams up with his younger self and his late father to come to terms with his past while saving the future.

Turning Red

WHY

For its new film, Pixar proposes to follow the coming of age of a young girl of Asian origin. This is the first film of the director Domee Shi who also wrote the script. It really has the Pixar touch in the visual and narrative aspect, namely the importance of family and self-development. But this time, the director has also brought in references such as Japanese animation, especially in the mood swings of the characters reminiscent of many Japanese anime, not to mention the famous and super cute panda. The story is touching and funny about this young girl who grows up, the many characters work very well especially the family. And the visual look in some sequences is really impressive!

WHAT

Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh (“The Chair,” “Killing Eve”) voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager.
